How to use the christmas color palette

  1. Select a palette style such as Classic Christmas or Modern Festive.
  2. Choose how many colors you need: 5, 8 or the extended 12.
  3. Pick an output format: HEX, RGB, HSL or CSS custom properties.
  4. Copy the swatches, table rows or CSS block directly into your project.

The six built-in palettes

Each christmas color palette contains eight hand-picked hex values that work together. The Classic set uses traditional red (#C41E3A), evergreen (#228B22), gold (#FFD700) and cream (#FFFDD0). Modern Festive swaps those for teal, magenta and electric blue. Winter Wonderland leans on icy blues and silvers. Vintage Holiday uses muted burgundy, sage and antique gold. Candy Cane focuses on peppermint pinks, bright reds and pure whites. Rustic Cabin grounds the scheme in forest greens, warm browns and deep cranberries.

Selecting 5 colors returns the first five swatches. Selecting 12 extends the base eight with four extra tones, made by lightening or darkening the first four swatches, so every extra stays in the same hue family as its source. If a source swatch is already pure white, its extra is a faint grey shadow (named Shadow) because white cannot be lightened. An extra that would repeat a color already in the list is shifted the other way, so the twelve hex values are always different.

Where to use a holiday color scheme

A well-chosen festive color scheme works across many media. For web design, apply the primary red or green to buttons and headings while using cream or white for backgrounds to keep text readable. In branding, limit yourself to three or four colors from the palette so logos stay recognizable at small sizes.

For interior decorating, paint samples based on these hex codes translate well to wall colors when matched at a paint counter. Wedding stationery benefits from the Vintage or Rustic sets, which feel seasonal without being overly loud. Print materials like flyers and gift tags should convert the RGB values to CMYK before sending to a press, because screen colors are additive and ink colors are subtractive.

Pairing with neutrals

Bright holiday colors can overwhelm a layout if used everywhere. Pair them with neutrals to create breathing room. Cream (#FFFDD0), mid gray (#808080) and soft white (#FAF9F6) let a saturated red or green act as an accent rather than a background flood.

A reliable ratio is 60 percent neutral, 30 percent secondary festive tone and 10 percent bold accent. For example, a web page might use a cream background (60%), an evergreen navigation bar (30%) and a classic red call-to-action button (10%). This keeps the christmas color palette visible without sacrificing readability.

Contrast and accessibility

WCAG 2.1 requires a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal body text and 3:1 for large text. Many festive combinations fail this test if used carelessly. Consider Classic Red (#C41E3A) on Cream (#FFFDD0).

To compute the ratio, first convert each hex to linear sRGB. Red #C41E3A gives relative luminance L1 = 0.1297. Cream #FFFDD0 gives L2 = 0.9606. The formula is (L_lighter + 0.05) / (L_darker + 0.05), so (0.9606 + 0.05) / (0.1297 + 0.05) = 1.0106 / 0.1797 = 5.62:1. That passes AA for normal text. However, Gold (#FFD700) on Cream yields only about 1.35:1, which fails completely. Always place dark text on light festive backgrounds or lighten the background further when using gold or pale green.

Export formats explained

The tool offers four output modes. HEX is the standard six-digit code used in CSS and design software. RGB provides comma-separated red, green and blue channels from 0 to 255, useful for canvas APIs and image processing. HSL expresses hue in degrees plus saturation and lightness percentages, making it easy to adjust a color lighter or darker by changing one number.

CSS variables output a ready-to-paste :root block. Each color becomes a custom property like --color-1: #C41E3A;. You can reference these throughout your stylesheet with var(--color-1), which makes swapping an entire christmas color palette as simple as changing the variable definitions.

FAQ

What are the traditional Christmas colors?

The most recognized combination is red, green, gold and white. Red represents holly berries, green stands for evergreen trees, gold symbolizes the star and white reflects snow.

Can I use these hex codes in CSS?

Yes. Every color is provided as a standard six-digit hex code. You can also select the CSS variables format to get a ready-made :root block for your stylesheet.

How do I ensure my holiday colors are accessible?

Check the contrast ratio between foreground text and background colors. WCAG 2.1 requires at least 4.5:1 for normal text. Avoid placing gold text on cream backgrounds, as the ratio is too low.

Do these colors work for print design?

They are defined in RGB and HEX, which are screen formats. For professional printing, convert the RGB values to CMYK using your design software to avoid unexpected shifts in hue.

What is the difference between the Classic and Modern palettes?

Classic uses traditional red, forest green and gold. Modern replaces those with teal, magenta and electric blue for a contemporary look while keeping the festive spirit.

Is any data sent to a server?

No. The generator runs entirely in your browser. Your selections and copied values never leave your device.
