How to use the florida paycheck calculator
- Enter your gross pay for one pay period and choose how often you are paid.
- Choose your filing status as it appears on your W-4 (Step 1c).
- Add pre-tax items: 401(k) deferrals and health premiums per period.
- Use your W-4 steps (two jobs box, credits, other income, deductions, extra withholding) if you filled them in.
- Read the net pay and the line-by-line deductions for this check.
What Florida takes, and what it does not
Article VII, Section 5 of the Florida Constitution prohibits the state from taxing the income of natural persons who live in or are citizens of Florida, so no Florida line appears on a paycheck. What you see is federal income tax and FICA. This florida paycheck calculator applies the rules for 2026.
Example: a married couple's Florida paycheck
One spouse earns $48,000 a year, paid twice a month ($2,000 gross), married filing jointly, with $120 of pre-tax health premiums per check. Taxable wages for federal purposes are $1,880 a check. The IRS 2026 percentage method withholds $53.83. Social Security is $116.56 and Medicare $27.26 (both on $1,880 because premiums are exempt from FICA). Florida tax is $0.00. Net pay is $1,682.35 per check, $40,376.40 a year.
Reemployment tax is paid by the employer
Florida calls its unemployment tax reemployment tax. The Florida Department of Revenue collects it from employers on the first $7,000 of each employee's wages in a calendar year. It is an employer-paid tax, not a paycheck deduction. A new employer starts at 2.7%; the rate for 2026 ranges from 0.1% to 5.4% depending on the employer's history. None of this changes your net pay.
Retirement savings in a no-income-tax state
A pre-tax 401(k) deferral cuts only federal tax here, since there is no state deduction to save. Putting $200 a month into a traditional 401(k) therefore costs you less than $200 of take-home, by your federal marginal rate (10%, 12% or 22% for most workers). Model it with the 401(k) field, then see the long-term effect in the 401k calculator.
Moving to or from Florida mid-year
This page treats every wage dollar as Florida pay. If you moved from a state that taxes wages, pay earned there may still be taxed there, and that tax is not calculated here. Run the Florida months in this tool and use that state's own calculator, or the general paycheck calculator with your own rates, for the rest.
Method and sources
Federal withholding follows IRS Publication 15-T (2026) Worksheet 1A for the federal figure and IRS Publication 15 (2026) for the Social Security wage base of $184,500, the 1.45% Medicare rate and the 0.9% Additional Medicare Tax over $200,000. Florida: Florida Constitution Article VII, Section 5, and the Florida Department of Revenue Reemployment Tax Rate Information page (read via a web.archive.org copy dated October 21, 2026; it states the 2.7% initial rate for the first 10 quarters, the 0.1% minimum and 5.4% maximum for 2026 on annual wages up to $7,000 per employee). The shared engine is covered by hand-worked Publication 15-T cases in the test suite (for example $2,700 a period, single, biweekly: $254.38). Estimate only, not tax advice.

FAQ
Does Florida tax wages?
No. Florida levies no state income tax on wages or salaries, and Article VII, Section 5 of the state constitution bars it.
Is Florida unemployment tax taken from my paycheck?
No. Florida reemployment tax is paid by the employer on the first $7,000 of each employee's wages. It is not a paycheck deduction.
Why is my paycheck still taxed if Florida has no income tax?
Federal income tax and FICA apply in every state. Only the state line is zero.
Do health premiums lower my Florida paycheck taxes?
Yes. Section 125 premiums reduce both federal income tax and FICA wages, which is why the Social Security and Medicare lines are lower in the example.
Does Florida have a local income tax?
No. Florida cities and counties do not tax wages.
Can I use this for a part-year Florida resident who moved from a taxed state?
Only for the Florida months. Wages earned while living in another state may be taxed there, which this page does not calculate.
