How to use the salary to hourly calculator
- Enter your annual salary in the first field.
- Set your typical hours per week (for example, 40 for full-time).
- Adjust working weeks per year if you take unpaid time off; otherwise leave it at 52.
- Add any unpaid days off that are not already reflected in the weeks field.
- Read your hourly, daily, weekly and monthly rates below.
How the salary to hourly conversion works
The formula divides your annual pay by the total number of hours you actually work in a year. Total hours equal your weekly hours multiplied by your working weeks, minus any unpaid days converted to hours.
Total hours = (hours per week x working weeks) - (unpaid days x hours per day)
For this calculator a standard work day is assumed to be one fifth of your weekly hours. If you work 40 hours per week, each day is 8 hours.
Worked example: an annual salary of $60,000 with 40 hours per week, 52 working weeks and zero unpaid days gives 60,000 / (40 x 52) = 60,000 / 2,080 = $28.85 per hour.
Common salary to hourly conversions
The table below assumes a standard 40-hour work week over 52 weeks (2,080 hours per year) with no unpaid time off.
| Annual salary | Hourly rate | Monthly rate |
|---|---|---|
| $30,000 | $14.42 | $2,500.00 |
| $40,000 | $19.23 | $3,333.33 |
| $50,000 | $24.04 | $4,166.67 |
| $60,000 | $28.85 | $5,000.00 |
| $75,000 | $36.06 | $6,250.00 |
| $100,000 | $48.08 | $8,333.33 |
| $120,000 | $57.69 | $10,000.00 |
| $150,000 | $72.12 | $12,500.00 |
Accounting for unpaid time off
Many salaried employees receive paid vacation, but contractors or workers with unpaid leave need to adjust their working weeks. If you take two weeks of unpaid vacation, set working weeks to 50 instead of 52. The same $60,000 salary then becomes 60,000 / (40 x 50) = $30.00 per hour rather than $28.85.
You can also use the unpaid days field for scattered personal days. Each unpaid day removes one fifth of your weekly hours from the denominator. Combining both fields lets you model a realistic schedule without overstating your effective hourly rate.
Using this as an annual to monthly salary calculator
Beyond the hourly figure, the results include a monthly rate calculated by dividing the annual salary by 12. This is useful when budgeting or comparing job offers that quote pay differently. For instance, $75,000 per year equals exactly $6,250.00 per month regardless of how many hours you work.
If you need to go the other direction and convert an hourly wage back into yearly pay, use the hourly to salary calculator. Pairing both tools helps you verify that a contractor rate matches a salaried position.
Gross versus net pay considerations
This salary to hourly calculator works with gross (pre-tax) figures. Your actual take-home pay will be lower after federal, state and local taxes, plus deductions for benefits like health insurance or retirement contributions. To estimate what you keep, apply your effective tax rate to the hourly result.
For broader financial planning, tools like the inflation calculator help you understand whether a raise keeps pace with rising costs, while the tip calculator is handy for service-industry workers whose income includes gratuities.

FAQ
How do I convert my salary to an hourly rate?
Divide your annual salary by the total hours you work in a year. Total hours are your weekly hours multiplied by the number of working weeks, minus any unpaid days converted to hours.
How many hours are in a standard work year?
A common assumption is 2,080 hours, which comes from 40 hours per week multiplied by 52 weeks. Adjust this if you work part-time or take unpaid leave.
Does this tool calculate take-home pay?
No. The salary to hourly calculator uses gross pay before taxes and deductions. Apply your effective tax rate separately to estimate net hourly earnings.
Can I use this as an annual to monthly salary calculator?
Yes. The monthly rate shown in the results is simply the annual salary divided by 12, independent of your weekly hours.
What if my work week is not 40 hours?
Enter your actual weekly hours. Part-time schedules, compressed work weeks and overtime-heavy roles all change the denominator and therefore the hourly rate.
Is my data sent to a server?
No. All calculations run locally in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored.
