Three ways to get a symbol into your text
- Copy and paste it from its page, which always works.
- Type it with a keyboard shortcut such as a Windows Alt code or a Mac Character Viewer search.
- Write it as an HTML, CSS or JavaScript escape so it survives in code and files with any encoding.
Why some symbols show as boxes
A box or question mark means the font in use has no glyph for that character. The character itself is fine and will display correctly in another font or on another device, so use a font that supports it when the symbol matters.
